Inconel 625

Protective coatings

Innovations

Innovations

Inconel 625 is a nickel-based austenitic alloy. It is characterized by high resistance to corrosion, erosion and oxidation, which makes it perfectly suitable for use in severe and extreme environments involving exposure to high pressure and elevated temperature.

When heated, Inconel 625 forms a thick and stable oxide-based passivation layer which provides an effective anti-corrosion barrier. The resulting coating remains resistant over a wide temperature range. This is of particular importance in high-temperature environments which might otherwise lead to creep deformations in aluminium and steel. Inconel 625 coatings applied through laser metal deposition has hardness of 25-30 HRC.

Protective coatings

Functional features

Protective coatings based on Inconel 625 are also used in the power sector for refurbishment and protection of pressurized components, and in the machine building industry for protection of individual parts, components and units.

Protective coatings

Intended use

Inconcel 625 is used for coatings on components which are mostly operated under extreme conditions such as:

  • Screen panels in sealed power boilers
  • Boiler tubes
  • Blades in gas turbines
  • Rotors
  • Seals for turbochargers

Inconel 625 coatings are also frequently used for protecting components in chemical plants.
